Commonly used roll materials include alloy forged steel, alloy cast steel and cast iron. Alloy forged steel is used for the alloy forged steel of the mill roll. It withstands strong rolling force, severe wear and thermal fatigue, and hot rolls work at high temperatures, and allow diameter wear within a unit of workload, so surface hardness is not required, only high strength and toughness are required and heat resistance. The hot rolls are only integrally normalized or quenched, and the surface hardness is required to be HB190~270.
Forged semi-steel and forged white iron are low-plastic materials with high wear resistance, and can be used to manufacture high-quality rolls by improving their microstructure and increasing their strength and toughness through appropriate forging processes.
