Electric smelting furnaces are classified according to heating methods

Cast Iron Melting Furnace(1) Direct heating method

In fact, it is the heating method in which the heat generated by the chemical fuel during combustion or the heat generated by the resistance element is directly transferred to the charge, which is called the direct heating method.

Its advantages are high thermal efficiency and simple furnace structure. Of course, there are also disadvantages, that is, the harmful impurities contained in the combustion products will have an adverse effect on the quality of the charge; for example, the harmful gas volatilized from the charge or covering agent will corrode the resistance element and reduce its service life;

(2) Indirect heating method

There are two types of indirect heating.

1. Combustion products or energized resistance elements do not directly heat the charge, but first heat the heat transfer medium such as radiant tubes, and then the heat is transferred to the charge by radiation and convection;

2. The alternating current is passed through the coil to generate an alternating magnetic field, and the furnace material in the magnetic field is heated by the induction current. The heating elements such as the induction coil and the furnace material are separated by the furnace lining material.

The advantage of the indirect heating method is that the combustion products or electric heating elements are separated from the charge, and there is no harmful effect on each other, which is beneficial to maintain and improve the quality of the charge and reduce metal burning loss. The induction heating method also has a stirring effect on the metal melt, which can accelerate the metal melting process, shorten the melting time, and reduce the metal burning loss.
